Strumech trailer and mast system (often known as Versatower) - a mobile, telescopic galvanized steel lattice tower built on a towable chassis. 60 feet mast at full height. The trailer itself is on a trailer of approx. 20 feet. Prior to our our ownership, the mast was used by one of our local coal mines - fitted with a high volt light so enable vision during the darker times - with a large powered light. We purchased it and its little version, from the coal board when they no longer needed it. These towers were widely used by organizations like British Telecom for radio communications, CCTV, and temporary lighting. The tower has a lattice Structure: Multi-section galvanized steel framework designed to withstand high winds and heavy headloads. It originally was hand winched (we still have those), it was converted to an electric winch - but this will need attention. Personally, if we were keeping it, we would put it back to the original, using the hand winch system. Winch Operation: Fitted with specialized hand- or power-winch systems (auto-braked) to safely raise and lower the mast. Trailer Chassis: Heavy-duty twin-axle road trailers equipped with a standard ball hitch, jockey wheel, and outriggers for levelling on uneven ground. It served the coal mine well, and ourselves for over 25 years. As I say, it needs some attention, and would do any radio group proud. In the photos you can see the mast in operation for our regular HF field days; the mast down and pics of it being towed by a vehicle; by our other trailer where it has been stored for a few years.
